Birthday Party Ideas - Princess Party

Princess birthday parties are the number 1 party theme for girls and there are many different ways to plan a princess party, from the decorations you choose to the games you play and the food you serve, here are some ideas for your childrens birthday party

First of all decide on your princess theme, for example will it be a barbie princess party or a fancy dress party? There are many different themed princess party supplies available online and locally for all ages.

You could choose to have a fancy dress party where everone comes in costumes or you could simply have only the birthday girl dress up to save the other parents the cost of buying costumes. Read on for more princess party ideas and a unique princess party game!

Decoration Ideas For Your Princess Party

Your party decorations can be shop bought or made at home, for shop bought you have a huge selection to choose from - everything from the party tableware to banners, balloons and pinatas. If you choose to make your own decorations you will have to do a little extra work and you may need to buy the supplies but it allows you the freedom to make your party really unique - you can make your own crowns, banners, streamers and you could even make your own piƱata quite easily. Whichever way you choose to decorate your princess party keep your budget in mind and the time you have available for planning your party.

Princess party food ideas

Your party food will vary depending on the requirements of your party guests, I use a basic party menu for every childrens party which goes down very well with the children and their parents, I then add extras based on the party theme like cupcakes decorated to match the theme, a princess theme is quite general so there is no need to worry too much about themed party food.

Princess party games

For every type of childrens party I like to organize a few different games and activities for the children with token prizes as rewards for either participating in the game or for winning the game (for young children I reward each child for participating as it helps to build confidence)

For a princess party you can do similar by making a simple treasure chest out of a decorated cardboard box  and filling it with little gifts for the princesses.

You can play all the traditional birthday party games like pass the parcel, musical statues (or in this case "musical princesses", pin the crown on the princess and many more.

For a unique birthday party game for a princess party you could try this game:

The princess and the pea party game

This is a really simple party game to organise and play and works similar to a treasure hunt, all you need are some  sheets of paper and some envelopes, one of each for every party guest, on one sheet you write the word pea, (or you can draw a pea) and fold it over, the other sheets can be left blank.

Place each sheet of paper in an envelope and hide the envelopes around the room, the party guests then search for the envelopes and once someone finds an envelope they must bring it unopened to the party table and place the envelope on the table in front of someone else's place (not their own, for this game it is good to have the seating arranged beforehand) they must then take their place at the table.

When all the envelopes are found and everyone is seated at the table again,  the game can begin.

Starting with the last player to the table, she is asked if she "feels" her envelope contains the pea, if she thinks it does  she then opens the envelope, if she feels that her envelope is blank and chooses not to open it, it is then passed to the player to her left who then passes their own envelope to the player on their left, until each player has a new envelope in front of them.

Then the play continues with the next guest who is also asked if they hold the pea.

If she claims that she does hold the envelope with the key,  she is then allowed to open her envelope and if the pea is in fact inside she is crowned the true princess and wins a prize.
If however she claimed she held the envelope with the pea inside and she was wrong the blank sheet is removed from play and she is out of the game.

Play continues clockwise until the pea is discovered and the princess is crowned!

This game has turned out to be a big hit at princess parties and is bound to get a lot of laughs.
