Peppa Pig Birthday Party Ideas

Ideas for a Peppa Pig Birthday party

Peppa Pig is a popular party theme although party supplies can be hard to find for this party theme, the peppa pig party theme is ideal for toddlers and younger children.

Peppa pig is a popular cartoon character in the Uk and Ireland and is based around the life of Peppa, her younger brother George, who loves dinosaurs and Mammy Pig and Daddy Pig.

There are many ways you can plan your peppa pig party, all the characters in the series are different animals so you could have a face painting party and paint the childrens faces as different characters from the series like Rebecca rabbit, Peppa's best friend

You can have a lot of fun decorating your house Peppa Pig style, or as my youngest says "Pepper pig!", You can use childrens magazine cutouts of all the peppa pig characters to create a lovely birthday banner or wall mural to brighten up the house or look online for Peppa pig party supplies or see below for supplies.

You could also have a fancy dress party and get all the guests to come as their favourite characters! There are so many to choose from and the kid's will love to choose their favourite animal character to dress up as. There is a lot to choose from in the series, you could decorate your house like windy castle or Peppa and Georges house and for party food you can serve all the characters favourite foods like carrot sticks for Rebecca Rabbit!

Peppa Pig Party game ideas

Muddy puddles party game

Peppa and George love to jump up and down in muddy puddles, so get all the guests to come to the party in their welly boots for a muddy puddles party!, this game can be played similarly to musical chairs, but instead of chairs simply cut out shapes from cardboard and place them on the floor, the children can jump in and out of the puddles as the music plays and when the music stops the children not standing in a puddle are out!, each round you can remove one "puddle" until there is a winner. A great version of musical chairs that costs nothing but really adds to your peppa pig theme!

Birthday Party Ideas - Princess Party

Princess birthday parties are the number 1 party theme for girls and there are many different ways to plan a princess party, from the decorations you choose to the games you play and the food you serve, here are some ideas for your childrens birthday party

First of all decide on your princess theme, for example will it be a barbie princess party or a fancy dress party? There are many different themed princess party supplies available online and locally for all ages.

You could choose to have a fancy dress party where everone comes in costumes or you could simply have only the birthday girl dress up to save the other parents the cost of buying costumes. Read on for more princess party ideas and a unique princess party game!

Decoration Ideas For Your Princess Party

Your party decorations can be shop bought or made at home, for shop bought you have a huge selection to choose from - everything from the party tableware to banners, balloons and pinatas. If you choose to make your own decorations you will have to do a little extra work and you may need to buy the supplies but it allows you the freedom to make your party really unique - you can make your own crowns, banners, streamers and you could even make your own piƱata quite easily. Whichever way you choose to decorate your princess party keep your budget in mind and the time you have available for planning your party.

Princess party food ideas

Your party food will vary depending on the requirements of your party guests, I use a basic party menu for every childrens party which goes down very well with the children and their parents, I then add extras based on the party theme like cupcakes decorated to match the theme, a princess theme is quite general so there is no need to worry too much about themed party food.

Princess party games

For every type of childrens party I like to organize a few different games and activities for the children with token prizes as rewards for either participating in the game or for winning the game (for young children I reward each child for participating as it helps to build confidence)

For a princess party you can do similar by making a simple treasure chest out of a decorated cardboard box  and filling it with little gifts for the princesses.

You can play all the traditional birthday party games like pass the parcel, musical statues (or in this case "musical princesses", pin the crown on the princess and many more.

For a unique birthday party game for a princess party you could try this game:

The princess and the pea party game

This is a really simple party game to organise and play and works similar to a treasure hunt, all you need are some  sheets of paper and some envelopes, one of each for every party guest, on one sheet you write the word pea, (or you can draw a pea) and fold it over, the other sheets can be left blank.

Place each sheet of paper in an envelope and hide the envelopes around the room, the party guests then search for the envelopes and once someone finds an envelope they must bring it unopened to the party table and place the envelope on the table in front of someone else's place (not their own, for this game it is good to have the seating arranged beforehand) they must then take their place at the table.

When all the envelopes are found and everyone is seated at the table again,  the game can begin.

Starting with the last player to the table, she is asked if she "feels" her envelope contains the pea, if she thinks it does  she then opens the envelope, if she feels that her envelope is blank and chooses not to open it, it is then passed to the player to her left who then passes their own envelope to the player on their left, until each player has a new envelope in front of them.

Then the play continues with the next guest who is also asked if they hold the pea.

If she claims that she does hold the envelope with the key,  she is then allowed to open her envelope and if the pea is in fact inside she is crowned the true princess and wins a prize.
If however she claimed she held the envelope with the pea inside and she was wrong the blank sheet is removed from play and she is out of the game.

Play continues clockwise until the pea is discovered and the princess is crowned!

This game has turned out to be a big hit at princess parties and is bound to get a lot of laughs.

If you have any princess party ideas of your own I would love to hear about them, you can comment below or contact me and I will add it to the site!

Birthday Party Ideas - Alternatives To Loot Bags

Party prizes instead of loot bags

I don't do loot bags for my parties, at least in the traditional way, I started using this idea when planning birthday parties as a way of entertaining the children and encouraging them to take part in the various party games and activities

I buy party favors like the ones listed in the post titled "ideas for what to put in your loot bags" simple inexpensive treats for the party guests and I wrap each one in birthday wrapping paper or colourful tissue paper. Generally for a mixed party I wrap the boys treats in blue and the girls in pink.

I then incorporate the gifts into the party theme and the party games, for example when planning a princess party or a pirate party, I make (or buy) a treasure chest, this can be easily made with a cardboard box, some paint and bright stickers. The treasure chest becomes part of the decoration for the party and I fill it with the party favours or gifts I have wrapped.

When it becomes time for the party games, each child is given an empty loot bag which they will then fill with the gifts from the chest which are earned by various different methods.

For young children simple participation in any of the party games and activites is rewarded by the child picking a gift from the chest. I try to make it as easy as possible for the children to fill their bags by providing many different simple activities to play.

For birthday parties where the guests are a little older, the favours are rewarded as prizes for winning a game, but I also provide prizes for good behaviour and helpfullness, this is so every child has many oppertunities to fill their bags.
The children who put out the chairs for musical chairs recieve a gift, the child who starts and stops the music for musical statues will recieve one too, this also works very well for games where the children are required to work in pairs and as a team.

I have found this method as an alternative to loot bags can make a huge difference to a party and helps keep the children occupied for longer as well as encouraging good behaviour.

I hope these birthday party ideas will provide you with inspiration for planning your own children parties and if you have an idea for a party you would like to share please feel free to comment, I would love to hear your birthday party ideas!

Ideas For Party Favors And Loot Bags

What should you put in your loot bags?

Many parents I know complain about the contents of the loot bags their children recieve having attended a birthday party and to some extent I would agree, many loot bags are filled with cheap candy that is high in sugar and colourings, many parents simply do not allow their children to keep the contents of the loot bags

So what should you put in your loot bags?

Personally I don't do loot bags in the traditional sense ( you can read about it in the post alternatives to loot bags) but if you do want to give out bags of treats to guests when they are leaving the party, here are some ideas to fill your bags with, that are not too expensive to provide

Hair accessories for girls loot bags, a few hair ties or a nice hair ribbon
A small toy or pack of playing cards
A small packet of good quality sweets or candy
A toy car for boys loot bags
A packet of crayons and a little notepad for young children
Stickers or other small stationary items

The above items can all be purchased relatively cheaply and will be sure to please both the guests and their parents

Birthday party ideas - Pirate party

Pirate party ideas

Boys love pirate parties - its official! but pirate parties are not just for boys! They are just as much fun for girls and are a unique party to plan because there is no limit to what you can do for a pirate themed party, you can do what you like for your party, you could of course have a pirates of the carribean birthday party but you could just as easily create your own theme - think parrots, peg legs and pinstripes!

Ideas for a pirate birthday party

Here are some ideas for your childrens pirate party

  • Have a pirate costume party- you can find many childrens pirate costumes online or look around your local shop for pirate party supplies, you could even make your own pirate costume!
  • Decorate your house or garden, pirate style  - pirates like gold and jewels right? and treasure of course, you could make a pirate treasure chest out of a cardboard box and fill it with pirate party favours or chocolate coins, treats and treasure all in one and a pretty cool decoration for your party - I bet the children would love to help make it too! How about an island party in the garden? you could make your "treasure island" very simply by placing blankets on the ground (around a tree if possible) for an authentic dessert island picnic party!
  • Decorate the party with pirate posters from childrens magazines (posters of islands, parrots, treasure chests etc) , if your children are into pirates you probably already have some of these in the house, you can also grab a few old halloween decorations (skulls are good) and place them around the room. Wrap the party favours in golden foil and store them in a chest/box and leave it in a corner of the room for giving out later - a very simple treasure chest decoration!
  • Pirate party food - get creative in the kitchen, what do pirates eat? chicken drumsticks, pigs in blankets (sausage rolls) - you can really use your imagination here - if you want to call your drumsticks mini peg legs then do - children are much better at getting into the spirit of things than us adults and you will probably end up with many new pirate names for regular food when the party is over!
  • Pirate party games - Again be creative, you could have a treasure hunt (let x mark the spot), a walk the plank game in the garden, musical pirates (like musical statues) or you could even buy a pirate pinata for your party for ready made fun!
  • Buy pirate party supplies - there is a huge range of pirate party supplies available that are inexpensive for your pirate party invitations, party loot bags and pirate tablewear.
Pirate birthday parties are great fun and one of the easiest types of themed parties to plan because you don't have to worry about getting all the party decorations to match, pirates don't do co-ordinated!

Ideas for childrens birthday parties

Picking a childrens party theme

There are many different party themes for all different types of childrens parties, you can choose to have a themed favourite character birthday party or create a completely unique party theme making your own decorations, invitations and activities.

Here are some ideas for all the different types of themes you can choose for any type of childrens party:

  • A favourite character party - like Barney, Peppa Pig, Thomas the tank engine etc
  • A made up party theme - a princess party, pirate party or dinosaur party
  • A pinata party - great for summer birthday parties
  • A musical party - karaoke or disco party
  • A fashion show party for girls
  • A treasure hunt party
  • A fancy dress party
  • An outdoor garden party
  • A tea party
There are many more party themes, this blog will give you tips on planning all different types of childrens party themes as well as party games for children, party ideas for childrens birthdays and ideas for party food.

Most childrens party games can be adapted to suit any type of party, for example the classic game of Pin the tail on the donkey, which is a  favourite game can easily be adapted for a princess party - instead of having a donkey you can have a poster of a castle and instead of a tail you can have a flag.

When coming up with ideas for childrens parties you can let your imagination take over, think back to the parties you had as a child or the parties you attended, what were the details that made those parties special? Ask your children what they can come up with, they will surprise you with their ideas.

Think party - think fun - think like a child and you are bound to find the right ideas to make your childrens party a day they will remember forever!
